Grievance Redressal System is a vital part of any administration. It is the responsibility of the College Administration to provide a secure and contented environment to all its Staff and Students. The Grievance Redressal Committee has been formed in the College as per the UGC guidelines to redress the grievances of both the staff and students. Since the inception of the college, the Committee has been under the direct purview of the principal.
The grievances received by the principal are forwarded to the concerned Committee members who look in to the problems depending upon the seriousness of the issue. The Committee has been continuously striving to take the best efforts possible to create a harmonious and conducive atmosphere to everyone in question.
Strategy of Grievance Cell
The Grievance Redressal Cell is a strictly confidential cell functioning effectively to acknowledge the genuine grievances of students in academic, administrative, student services and other related student related areas. Suggestions dropped in the grievance box are handled by the Principal who heads the Grievance Redressal Committee. This enables in the creation of a more student-sensitive environment, better stakeholder relationships and a congenial teaching-learning atmosphere.
- Class teachers, subject teachers and Heads are entrusted with the responsibility of dealing with grievances related to academic matters.
- Staff and student coordinators are assigned the task of solving any complaints related to clubs and associations.
- Any matter that cannot be resolved within the above framework shall be referred to the Grievance Redressal Committee.
- Direct complaints can also be made in issues of common interest.
- The suggestion box can be used for grievances relating to any college-related matters.
- Issues that require immediate and serious action are attempted to be resolved by the Committee in consultation with the staff, management and parents.
- Prompt and effective redressal of complaints is ensured through the joint efforts of all the stakeholders.
Objective:
The objective of the Grievance Cell is to develop a responsive and accountable attitude among all the stakeholders in order to maintain a harmonious educational atmosphere in the institute. A Grievance Cell should be constituted for the redressal of the problems reported by the Students of the College with the following objectives:
- Upholding the dignity of the College by ensuring strife free atmosphere in the College through promoting cordial Student-Student relationship and Student-teacher relationship etc.
- Encouraging the Students to express their grievances / problems freely and frankly, without any fear of being victimized.
- Advising Students of the College to respect the right and dignity of one another and show utmost restraint and patience whenever any occasion of rift arises.
- Advising all the Students to refrain from inciting Students against other Students, teachers and College administration.
- Advising all staffs to be affectionate to the Students and not behave in a vindictive manner towards any of them for any reason.
- Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited in and outside the institution. Any violation of ragging and disciplinary rules should be urgently brought to the notice of the Principal.
Functions of the Grievance Redressal Committee:
- To accept written grievances from students and staff related to the system.
- To create and implement a mechanism to handle the reported grievances.
- To forward the findings to the Management if necessary for further action.
- To listen, record and scrutinize the grievances submitted to them by the Staff and Students and take necessary steps immediately.
- To attend to the grievances based on the authenticity and gravity of the criticisms made.
- To represent the grievances to the concerned section which may include maintenance, transport, academic, amenities etc.
- To convene periodical meetings to discuss whether the grievances have been settled.
- To make a follow-up of these matters at regular intervals till their final disposal.
- To maintain strict confidentiality, if necessary.
Grievance Redressal Mechanism:
- The grievance redressal mechanism is effectively implemented through the committees set up for the purpose.
- To channelize the problems of students and faculty members, the grievance redressal mechanism has a grievance redressal committee, anti-sexual harassment cell, anti-ragging committee, and discipline committee etc.
- Notice boards are installed at strategic locations on campus displaying rules, regulations and mandatory warnings necessary to maintain discipline and enforce the code of conduct.
- Thus, both students and staff are informed of the authorities to contact in case of possible complaints.
- The grievance redressal cell processes and evaluates the nature of the grievances while maintaining confidentiality. The complainant will be informed of the disciplinary measures taken.
- In addition, certain rules and strategies are followed to prevent unpleasant incidents from happening again.
- A well carved system ensures minimum grievances.
Grievance Redressal Procedure:
A three-level system has been established to deal with all student grievances.
- Class level: The student mentoring system is utilized to deal with any personal grievances.
- Department level: Heads of departments and senior faculty resolve any complaints.
- College level: The Grievance Redressal Committee is responsible to address any issues.
